The Assassin's Creed movie gets its first poster - GamesRadar+ (blog)

Here's one for your Eagle Vision. The first feathery poster for the Assassin's Creed movie has been revealed. Running with Assassin's Creed: The Movie as (hopefully) a working title, Ubisoft Motion Pictures will be showing off more at E3 according to released promo material. 

Due to start filming in September, the adaptation stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard and will be directed by Justin Kurzel who has already worked with the pair on this year's Macbeth. 

Previously rumoured to be starring as Desmond Miles, Fassbender - who is also on producer duties - has been tight lipped on setting and storyline but has discussed the rich world that the Assassin's Creed universe offers. In an interview with IGN he said "we're working very hard to make sure that we've got the best and most exciting, original package." The Spanish Inquisition has been a rumoured setting and given the fact that Assassins change on a yearly basis now, it wouldn't be too much of a leap of faith to forge some new characters rather than rely on one from six games ago. 

Given that the poster is covered in the distinct lines of the Animus, it's clear that whatever the time period, the past and present division will take a starring role rather than being unfortunately sidelined like in recent games. We'll have to see what E3 2015 brings but the current official release date is listed for December 21st next year.

Movie of the Week: “Limelight” - The New Yorker

With the 1952 film "Limelight" (which I discuss in this clip), Charlie Chaplin was both telling a counterfactual version of his life story and attempting a comeback. He had never lost his fame, but he had lost his popularity, quickly, between 1940, when the "The Great Dictator" was released and quickly ranked among the highest-grossing films ever, and 1947, when the release of "Monsieur Verdoux" nearly sank United Artists. What had changed was Chaplin—and the United States. In "Monsieur Verdoux," Chaplin—borrowing a suggestion from Orson Welles—cast himself as a dapper Bluebeard, a refined serial killer who murders his many wives and goes to the gallows with a supreme contempt for the laws and norms of the society that drove him to such desperate extremes. In 1936, in "Modern Times," as the Little Tramp thumbing his nose at plutocrats during the Depression, Chaplin had had public opinion behind him, as he did when mocking Hitler and Mussolini. But when mocking law and order, familial sentimentality and mercantile vulgarity—not from below but, so to speak, from above—Chaplin sacrificed the popular touch. With the country and, especially, the government and the press in full Cold War mode, Chaplin's pessimism—combined with accusations that he was a Communist or a sympathizer—led to a heated backlash of outrage, including local bans on the movie and calls for a nationwide ban. The movie was admired mainly by leftist writers; in the mainstream press, the movie was, for the most part, panned (including at The New Yorker).

With "Limelight," Chaplin thought he had a sure thing going—a sentimental story set in the world of the English music halls that he had traded for a career in movies. But here, too, his bitter philosophical vein took over. In his biography of Chaplin, Kenneth Lynn writes, "At their very first meeting in New York, [his co-star Claire] Bloom recalled, Chaplin informed her that the opening scenes of 'Limelight' were set 'in the Kennington slums where he was born.' " The story, though set in 1914, begins where Chaplin more or less found himself at the time of the shoot—an elderly has-been, both well-known and unpopular—and it reveals him to be endowed with an ironic loftiness of character that was out of synch with the new tastes of the times. (In this magazine's capsule review, the film was brushed aside as "somewhat garrulous" and "rather solemn a good deal of the time.") After Chaplin completed the film—and before it was released� �Chaplin travelled to London, where, faced with McCarthy-ite suspicions, his reëntry visa to the U.S. was denied. Under pressure from rightist groups, many movie theatres throughout the country refused to show the film. In 1957, while in exile, Chaplin made the film "A King in New York," a furious, uproarious, ingeniously imaginative lampooning of McCarthy-era America; it was the last film he'd ever star in.

Persipura Jayapura Resmi Bubar

Akibat konflik antara PSSI dan pemerintah yang berakibat dihentikannya liga dan gagalnya Persipura Jayapura tampil di Piala AFC, klub menyatakan diri dibubarkan hari ini.

"Hari ini saya tegaskan tim Persipura dibubarkan hari ini, jam ini, dan detik ini," ujar Ketua Umum Persipura Jayapura, Benhur Tomy Mano didampingi, Manajer Persipura, Rudi Maswi dan Sekertaris Umum Persipura Roky Babena kepada wartawan di Hotel Grand Abe Jayapura, Jumat (5/6) pukul 11.00 WIT.

Pernyataan, Mano, ini mengagetkan sejumlah wartawan yang hadir. "Dengan sedih saya bubarkan ini,"ujarnya dengan nada sedih.

Dikatakan, pembubaran tim ini belum diketahui para pemain. "Nanti tugas manajer yang menyampaikan ini,"ujarnya.

Dengan demikian semua kegiatan maupun apa pun kegiatan tak diikuti Persipura.

Gagalnya Persipura berlaga di AFC‎, harus menjadi tanggungjawab Menpora, Badan Olahraga Profesional Indonesia (BOPI) dan imigrasi. "Mereka harus bertanggung jawab, "ujarnya.

Dirinya ju ga menegaskan, jangan ada ancaman apa pun untuk Persipura‎. "Jangan ancam-ancam Persipura dengan gertakan atau sanksi. Kami selalu berada di bawah naungan statuta FIFA dan PSSI. Dan kami selalu bermain mengharumkan bangsa ini," ujarnya.

Badan sepakbola dunia (FIFA) menjatuhkan sanksi untuk Indonesia terkait pembekuan PSSI oleh Kementerian Pemuda dan Olahraga (Kempora). Keputusan tersebut dibuat pada pertemuan Komite Eksekutif FIFA yang berlangsung di Zurich, Sabtu (30/5) dan berlaku sampai waktu yang tidak ditentukan.

Dengan sanksi ini, maka Indonesia dilarang mengikuti semua program FIFA. Namun, Timnas Merah Putih tetap diizinkan mengikuti SEA Games mengingat kompetisi sudah terlanjur berlangsung. Keputusan ini pun sekaligus mengakhiri kiprah Persipura di ajang AFC Cup meski mereka sebelumnya gagal bertanding melawan Pahang FA. Sumber  (www.beritasatu.com)

Kompetisi Terhenti, Persipura Jayapura Dibubarkan Dampak kompetisi QNB League musim ini kembali memakan korban. Kali ini, Persipura Jayapura yang membubarkan diri pasca PSSI mendapatkan sanksi dari FIFA. Hal ini disampaikan oleh Ketua Umum Persipura, , Benhur Tommy Mano.

"Hari ini, jam ini, dan detik ini, tim Persipura Jayapura dibubarkan," kata Benhur didampingi Sekretaris Umum Rocky Bebena dan Manajer Rudi Maswi saat jumpa pers di Grand Abe Hotel, Kota Jayapura, Papua, Jumat (5/6/2015).

"Iya, semua pemain putus kontrak. Tim ini dibubarkan, akan kembali jika sanksi PSSI dicabut oleh Menpora dan BOPI," kata BTM.

Manajer Persipura Rudi Maswi sudah menyampaikan masalah persepakbolaan Tanah Air kepada sponsor tim tapi belum mendapat jawaban.

"Kami sudah bicara dengan para sponsor soal keadaan sepak bola. Namun sponsor belum berikan jawaban, kalau mereka kasih jawaban tetap membiyai maka kami bisa berikan gaji pemain dan lainnya," kata Rudi Maswi.

Sekretaris Umum Persipura Rocky Bebena mengatakan pengelola memutuskan membubarkan tim untuk menjaga dan melindungi Persipura dari sanksi FIFA.

"Hanya skuad yang dibubarkan, (manajemen klub) Persipura tidak. Kami menjaga nama Persipura agar tidak dapat sanksi dari FIFA," katanya.

Pada kesempatan itu Benhur mengatakan Menteri Pemuda dan Olahraga Imam Nahrawi dan Badan Organisasi Profesional Indonesia (BOPI) harus bertanggung jawab atas kegagalan tim berjuluk Mutiara Hitam itu berlaga di babak 16 besar AFC Cup karena tiga pemain tim tamu Pahang FA tidak mendapat visa.

"Menpora dan BOPI harus bertanggung jawab tentang masalah ini, bertanggung jawab gagalnya Persipura ke AFC Cup 2015. Itu kuncinya, mereka harus cabut sanksi kepada PSSI," katanya. Sumber  (olahraga.rimanews.com)
